Newcomer Integration
Algonquin College’s Settlement to Employment Program (STEP), a unique partnership that exists between LASI World Skills, Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO), YMCA-YWCA and Algonquin College and funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, provides support, experience, training and mentoring for internationally trained professionals in order that they find meaningful employment in the field in which they were trained. The STEP clients who have been successful in the past three (3) years of the program have benefited from the collective expertise of the individuals in these partner organizations. STEP is a one-stop shop for the needs of the internationally trained professionals.
STEP has provided enhanced language skills through mentoring, placements, coaching, targeted resume and cover letter enhancements, as well as mock interviews with real Ottawa employers to over 500 clients thus far. The STEP program takes pride in its past and present involvement with the Internationally Trained Civil Engineering Technologist (ITCET) bridging program as well its present involvement in the International Finance and Administrative Professional (IFAP) bridging program. The STEP program will continue to be involved with other programs at Algonquin College.
